What ever happened to being concise and relevant? Why are people so ridiculously long-winded?

People are obsessed with talking in circles, talking about nothing. Is this a Seinfeld or an Oprah generated craze? I have a feeling that what caused people to not be able to stop talking is cellphones. Too many people are on them every waking moment and especially every minute they're driving. They treat their car like it's their house and driving carefully is an afterthought. The idiots who said the art of conversation is dead have caused chaos.
