Why is all the good stuff only available at comic book conventions?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the cool collectibles available for people who haven't exhausted all their dough actually getting into the events? I'm aware of souvenirs, but this is ridiculous. I want the good stuff without having to deal with travel plans or shady auction site peddlers.
