What can eat uneaten food in a fish tank?

I have a siamese fighting fish in an unheated, unfiltered tank. When he doesn't eat all his food it falls to the bottom and quickly gets mouldy. Other than fishing it out, what can I do? Will a snail of some kind eat it or something? Needs to be a non-tropical temp solution and also small as another fish would crowd the fighter. Cheers
